…David versus Goliath reincarnation match in Mutare
THE Mutare Sports Club Shumbas will today (Saturday) pit the defending champions Old Georgians in the last round fixture of the Northern (Harare) topflight rugby league.
The match kicks off at 15:30pm at Mutare Sports Club.
OGs last weekend climbed from second place to the top of the league with 22 points after walloping Police Defenders 104-0. The Mutare Shumbas on the other hand still sit on fourth place out of seven with 12 points regardless of their 13-12 victory over debutants XP Horns last Saturday.
The David versus Goliath match is no doubt a herculean task for the hosts that will have to give their 101 percent strength of will to win this match. The Shumbas have never won against OGs but will hope to pull a miracle this time round making use of the home advantage. The Shumbas that have so far won three matches out of the five fixtures it played in the seven teams league are eying to finish in the top three but will have to pull up their socks in the second round of the league and do better in terms of scoring big to get bonus points.
Ironically the Shumbas might have to face one of their own, Tatenda Maunga who was popularly known as Baby that joined OGs this season. Ngoni Chibuwe another former Msc player that joined OGs this season will not be coming.
The Shumbas that are known to go down fighting and to be a cunning side that can never be underestimated in the league stunned will have to brave this match for their die-hard fans
Msc coach Mackenzie Munetsi said as usual the boys are fired up and they have a good side that will hopefully achieve the unexpected.
“We know we have a tough side OGs but we also have a strong side and as usual the Shumbas go down fighting so anything is expected,” said Munesti.
After last weekend’s games OGs (22) now sits on top of the log, Harare Sports Club (20) on second place then Old Hararaians (16), Msc (12), XP Horns (6), Alex Sports Club (6) and Police Defenders (1) follow respectively.
